Housiversary One

In keeping with my general inability to properly commemorate blog anniversaries and special dates, I allowed our first anniversary of owning this house to drift past unnoticed.

Well, perhaps not completely unnoticed. I may have mentioned it to the husband when I got home from the OOAK show. But we didn't do anything to commemorate the day and I didn't even manage to pop on here and let you all know about the big milestone. Blog on a Saturday? Are you kidding?

Missed housiversary aside, since we've been here for a whole year now, I want to take you guys on a bit of a trip down memory lane this week. Let's start with our house hunt, shall we?

I got my job in September of 2010, 3 months after we got married and moved to the Big City so the Husband could start his new job. We were renting a tiny condo unit on the 30th floor of a building in North York, right on Yonge Street and it was fine, but we both knew we wanted to buy. The Husband wanted to renovate. I wanted a mini adventure. So, when I got my job and made it through the probationary period, we went to the bank, got pre-approved and waited as long as we possibly could. Our lease wasn't up until the end of April, after all, and it was only November.

January hit. We spent two weeks looking at everything that was on the market in our chosen area. Then, we offered, low-balled, in fact, and were shocked when the sellers accepted the number. Sometimes, especially as we watch the housing market continue to go insane around us, we're still shocked that we got the house for the price we did.

The waiting began. I spent more time than I like to admit staring at this, a screenshot I took of the Google street view image of our house.

And then, on March 31st, one year ago Saturday, I wrote this post and, with those feelings, the adventure began. What were we dealing with?

Our front room, facing our front door.

Bedroom number one, also known as Room Number Four, which we use as a living room.

The bathroom, the disgusting, untouchable bathroom.

The mess of an unusable kitchen.

And finally,

Our bedroom, drop ceiling and all.

In a year, we've come a long way from this place.

  1. YAY! Congrats on one year of Home Ownership! It's crazy isn't it. I find it hard to believe it's been almost 3 years since we moved in here... and when our 3 year anniversary of owning this home hits... we won't even be here to celebrate! :(

You guys have done an incredible job in a year! The bathroom and kitchen renovations are beautiful! Can't wait to see what year two brings for you two!
